Dr. S. Prakash, M.S., FRCS (Glasgow), FAIS, is a medical professional with over two decades of clinical experience in India and abroad and 20 years of leadership in the health insurance industry. He spent 16 years at Star Health Insurance, rising to Managing Director. Under his leadership, the company’s Gross Written Premium grew from about USD 2 million in 2007 to USD 1.56 billion in 2023, and it successfully launched its IPO in 2021. He played a key role in implementing a pioneering Mass Health Insurance Scheme in South India, covering nearly 126 million people and empanelling over 1,000 hospitals. Dr. Prakash has chaired the CII Tamil Nadu Healthcare Panel and served in leadership roles with FICCI and NatHealth. Currently, he is CEO of the Health Insurance Ecosystem & Strategic Partnerships vertical at the General Insurance Council, driving reforms in cost control, governance, and policyholder protection.
